The delta may not be located in the middle of a ridge running between the type lines towards the core, but at the nearer end only.ħ. When there are two or more possible deltas which confirm to the definition, the one nearest the core is chosen.Ħ. When there is a choice between a bifurcation and another type of delta, the bifurcation is elected.ĥ. The delta may not be located at a bifurcation which does not open towards the core.Ĥ. In the given figure, Delta is denoted by D in delta by divergence.ģ. In given figure, the dot marked delta is considered as the delta because it is the first ridge or part of a ridge nearest the point of divergence of the two type lines.Ģ. In case of a delta formed by the divergence of two parallel ridges, the nearest ridge in front of the place where the divergence begins, even if it is a mere point or is connected to any of the diverging ridge, is outer terminus. When there are several such bifurcations, the one nearest to the core is taken as the outer terminus. In case of a delta formed by the bifurcation of a single ridge, the point of bifurcation is the point of delta, also known as the Outer Terminus. A delta is a triangular plot which may be formed either by the bifurcation of a single ridge or by the divergence of two parallel ridges, these ridges forming the type lines. These points are called Delta and Core. Within the pattern areas of loops and whorls are enclosed the fixed points which are used to classify them. Simplicity of Recording: Fingerprints are effective identification medium which is susceptible of being recorded in a simple manner. Classifiable: The scope for the classification of fingerprints is large and yet the work is simple. Inimitable: Successful forgery of fingerprints has not been reported so far. Universal: All individuals carry this medium of identification. Permanent: The fingerprint of an individual does not change from birth to core. Unique: The ridge pattern of each finger has an individuality of its own. The fingerprints as evidence are most significant in terms of forensic investigation because of the following features of the fingerprints: The surface layer is called epidermis which is inked in making fingerprints. The skin is made up of two superposed layers, the dermis and the epidermis. A fingerprint is a reproduction of the ridge formation of a finger on a surface.
